Wells Gorman began his life in West Virginia, and he always lit up when he recalled his adventurous childhood to family and friends. Wells and his lovely wife, Martha, met in high school and married not long after graduation. Throughout his schooling Wells enjoyed athletics and was a stellar athlete.
Wells enlisted in the Navy during WWII, and was sent oversees not long after their first child, Kyle Richard "Rich" was born. After the war, Wells pursued a college degree and soon began his lifelong career of teaching mathematics and coaching. In 1950 they welcomed their daughter, Susan. In 1955, Wells and Martha made the move to San Diego, CA where Wells enjoyed much success as a basketball coach and/or math professor (1955-1985). In 1961, he had the privilege of starting Southwestern Community College in Bonita, CA. In 1960 Wells and Martha welcomed daughter, Jane. One of Wells's beloved "projects" was building a 3000 sq.foot. dream home in the hillsides of rural San Diego. Here one of his big dreams came to fruition, and it was one of his crowning achievements. Wells believed he could do anything he set his mind to as long as he was willing to work hard. Wells was also an avid golfer, and faithfully worked out at his gym until the COVID pandemic closed it. Wells also enjoyed the theater, concerts, and sporting events.
In 2002 Wells relocated to Sun City West, AZ, two years after Martha had passed away. Sun City West was his home until his passing.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Martha Gorman. He is survived by his children: Rich of Wilcox, AZ, Susan of Sun City West, AZ, and Jane of Hanford, CA. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Christopher, Kathryn, Amanda, Samuel, and Jacob, plus a few great grandchildren, his brother Bill, and numerous cousins and nieces/nephews.
Per Wells's request there will not be a memorial service or funeral. His family would love any stories or kind thoughts of their dad/granddad to be left for them here.
