We created a GatheringUs memorial to celebrate the life of Avi Gittler. Collecting your stories and memories here will offer us great comfort. As we plan virtual and in person gatherings, we will share details here. Thank you for contributing to this lasting memorial.
OBITUARY
I remember Avi as the, "grown-up" cousin when I was a kid but he was just a teenager, eight years older than me. We both grew up, he married Martha, I was a teenager and we lost touch. A few years ago I found Martha on Facebook and we started catching up. My favorite memory is when, Martha, Avi, Dov and Barbara stopped by by our home in North Carolina on the last leg of a very long trip. Avi was immediately telling funny stories and keeping us in stitches. The funniest thing is how happy they were to have a glatt kosher deli lunch after living on junk food a lot of the time. I did not really understand how much junk food they had until I walked them back to the car. It was junk food heaven!
I am very glad that my husband Ben and I got to know the grown up Avi and spend time with him in our home and theirs. He will be missed. Our hearts and love go out to Martha, all his children his siblings and the rest of my Gittler/Gilor family. Baruch dayan ha'emet
