Anthony P. Lagana, (born Antonio Peter Lagana) 87, of Trenton, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010, in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Hamilton. Born in Trenton, Anthony was a lifelong resident. Anthony was a member of the "Greatest Generation". He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Army's 1st Infantry Division. Anthony was a member of the "Greatest Generation". He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Army's 1st Infantry Division. He served in the European Theater of the war and saw combat in the Rhineland Campaign/Aachen and in the Hurtgen Forest in Germany. He was the recipient of an Army Good Conduct Medal, an American Campaign Medal, a European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, a World War II Victory Medal, a Combat Infantryman Badge, and a Bronze Star Medal. He retired from the Pennsylvania Railroad/Penn Central/ Amtrak in 1984 after 43 years of service. He was a dedicated and extremely hard worker who took great pride in a job well done. He was a proud member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees.
Anthony was a devout Catholic and an active member of St. Joachim Church in Trenton and a member of the H.E.L.P. Senior Citizen Club. Anthony was a generous and friendly individual. He would help anyone in need and give the shirt off his back to strangers. He greatly enjoyed trips to Atlantic City, and spending time with his family. He loved telling stories about the "Railroad" or about his experiences in "The War". He was respected and beloved by all who knew him. He truly was a great man.
Funeral services with military honors were held Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011 at 3 p.m. at St. Mary's Cemetery Mausoleum, 1200 Cedar Lane, Hamilton.
