Alexander Patrick Clewell was born on April 13th, 2002 to Danielle Chalfant and William Clewell.
Alex was a very happy baby, except when hungry. He would pound his high-chair and scream, demanding his meal immediately. His love for good food stayed with him.
As a toddler and young child, he was carefree, inquisitive, and accident prone, bumping his head all the way through his pre-adolescence. These were also traits that he never lost.
When he entered his pre-teen and early teen years, Alex struggled to find himself, as most people do. He was kind and shy as he searched within for the meaning of things.
His body stretched out and his mind expanded as he developed. He became bold, beautiful, and confident. He grew into himself, into the person so many people would come to appreciate and love. This all happened right in front of his family’s amazed eyes. He was always fully himself, unapologetically genuine at all times. He could frustrate you and make you proud in the same instant, a very confusing thing for a parent.
Alexander grew up in a diverse and supportive family, rich soil for him to flourish. He became even more kind, accepting, compassionate, and overall- Free. This was a frightening and marvelous thing to admire.
Our dear son, brother, and friend, of course our hearts are heavy. Of course we will think of what might have been if you would have had more time. Of course we will miss you with all of our hearts for the rest of our lives.
But it has been a true privilege and a real honor to raise you and love you these 18 years. I know that you would not want us hurting and limping through our lives, broken by your early departure. It is in your honor son, brother, friend that we will endeavor to live again.
You were always prone to accidents, and it was an accident that took you away from us.
Knowing this, we will try to be more careful. We will try to be ourselves all the time. We will be open and kind. In this way son, we will keep you with us as we move through our lives.
Alexander passed away accidentally at home and in his sleep with his family around him on the evening of May 22nd, 2020. May our love propel him on his journey to the stars.
