I remember when I decided it would be fun to take my 4Runner (aka “El Diablo” affectionately named for its ability to occasionally catch fire) off-roading in the old Lost Canyon boneyard area. Jim saw me drive right into in and he knew what would happen. I enjoyed 3.2 seconds of off-roading bliss and then sank and was up to my running boards in paralyzing mud. I’d be up to my knees if I got out. Opening my car door was a joke. I sat there for only maybe 2 minutes stewing on my bad life choice before I heard a motor heading my way. There was Jim! Pulling up in a camp tractor already equipped to haul me out! I was fairly embarrassed at my lack judgment but he just smiled and said “as soon as I saw you start driving, I knew you’d get stuck in there”. So incredibly kind. Always on the look out for ways to help. The Jensen family graciously hosted our YL club in their home (moved their furniture every week and risked their living room. Ok and maybe their lives a little when an unnamed leader caught fire to a paper to emphasize a point in his talk). I’m thankful you all took in my dog Roxy when I couldn’t take her along in my move to CA. I’m thankful for Jim’s kind, loving, and graceful presence that will inspire us to also help others and remind us of God’s loving kindness to each of us. Jim will be deeply missed.
