ON EARLY WILDERNESS TRIPS with Dad, we packed in a small raft for trolling the middle of the lake. One year at Badger Lake, he also tried his luck at this spot along the shore and ended up hooking at least an 18 inches trout, by far the largest we had ever seen from a small mountain lake! Dad reeled in the line and I handled a net compatible for fish closer to ten inches. We didn’t get a chance to take a measurement. As I maneuvered a net that in reality was too small, with a jerk, the large trout managed to unhook itself, and in a flash, gone! Dad and I looked at each other and couldn’t help but laugh!
