I believe I started teaching at Harold Washington College around the same time as Matt, so I knew him as faculty colleague and as a retiree colleague for close to 50 years. Matt was always an important player, a key person in the life of the College. Since we were in different academic departments I probably got to know him first as a colleague while on a picket line or in the strike headquarters of the various teacher strikes that took place in the early years of City College/Union contracts. There was more interaction during a period where he was a college vice president and I was a department chairman. I found that he had a soft-spoken, but persistent leadership style which I admire very much. In later years he was instrumental in setting up, along with several other faculty members, an annual computer conference at Harold Washington College in the early days of encouraging faculty to add computer and internet use in their teaching when appropriate. Upon retirement, he was one of the main organizers of a Macintosh and iPad users group which lasted from the start of the millennium until the onset of the unfortunate pandemic. I remember Matt as an admirable, thoughtful, considerate, and important presence in every role in which I knew him.

A photo from the early days of the Macintosh users group is below.
