Your dad was a wonderful person, and I have been so fortunate to have had the opportunity to get to know him these past few years when visiting San Francisco. I only wish we could have spent more time with him over the years, but it was so nice to make the connection after a lengthy period of only hearing about Uncle John.
Being with your dad was very much like being with Cia's dad, as they shared so many traits, their intelligence, equanimity, friendliness, but most of all their very sharp senses of humor, which endeared them to everyone. They obviously came from the same mold, with their similar physical appearance and personalities, and that was a very good mold indeed. I knew from the first time we had lunch with John at The Sequoias, when he was debating whether to bring white or red wine to the dining room and he finally settled on “why not both ?”, that I was going to really like him, and I did.
For me, and probably anyone who knew him, your dad will always remain in my memories and always bring a smile to my face, just like his brother Sid.
