John and KC the dog. This is the dog that ran down the side of a cliff in Mendocino and got stuck on a ledge for 2 days! The Preston fam was panicked and had no idea that he was a mere few hundred feet away from their rental home (they couldn’t see or hear him!).. they thought they would have to leave town without KC which was heartbreaking... but the morning they were set to depart some people camping on the beach below alerted John that they could see the dog trapped on a ledge, and had seen him howling and being surrounded by coyotes the night before! Poor KC! There was no way to get to him (and lemme tell you..John and David tried their hardest.. attempted to traverse the cliff but it was far too high). A kind local ended up using gear he had in his truck to propel down the cliff side and they pulled KC up with a rope! It was one of the craziest stories, and a testament to John and Bonnie’s favorite place- Mendocino. The locals came together and helped save KC’s life! We would talk and laugh with John about this memory constantly.
