During the summer, Jenny and I would spend every day at Laguna Beach. We'd get there about 9:00 am when the June gloom was still around; stake our claim on the beach by the volleyball courts with our towels, chairs, boogie board, fins, smash ball; and not head home until after 6:00 pm. At the beach we would swim for hours. Jenny was a "boogie boarder" and I was a "body surfer". We would always fight over the good waves. I'll never forget the day Jenny caught the perfect wave and got "tubed". She was so excited and thrilled! She said to me in the water, "did you see that tube I just got? I said "no" even though I had, because I was jealous. It wasn't until many beach days later that I admitted to her I had seen her tube ride and that it was really bitchin. She just laughed at me and said, "you really need to chill out". As we hoofed it down to Main Beach in Laguna everyday with all our stuff, Jenny would say, "I swear, we should just pick a spot and bury our stuff each night so we don't have to carry it down to the beach each day." For the 4th of July fireworks shows on Main Beach, we took Jenny's idea a bit further and would bury our cooler of beer in the sand under our beach chairs so the cops wouldn't find it. Turns out, years later as a California State Park Ranger patrolling San Onofre and San Clemente beahes, JD always found the hidden coolers when she busted the under age drinkers on the beach. She would pile on their misery and make them pour out all of the beers on the sand.
