Remembering Rudi

I caught snapshots, literally, of Rudi and Louis’s childhood through family photos Hope would send around, although identifying one boy cousin from another in those early days was often hit and miss! Two trips to Vancouver Island later (2009, Oyster Bay, and 2012, salmon in pastry, yes, we still remember that Vince) and I could at least say I met those boys. It was at Hope’s memorial weekend, May 2015, in Victoria where I finally met Rudi and Louis as young men. What struck me most was the easy way in which they took my girls under their wings and made a potentially awkward occasion / weekend into a really special family time for them. As a parent this was hugely appreciated. I could see Rudi had an outgoing and light hearted side to him that made him instantly likeable. A chip off the old Beverley blockJ. I’m sure he touched many others in this same way.

Rudi’s early passing makes no sense, he should still be with us enjoying these summer days. In this difficult time ahead, please know that his endearing qualities will be remembered with great fondness. Cheers to you Rudi, and know that we’re sending lots of long distance love to help with the sadness being felt by your family, the Hope & Jock Stewarts, and the Kraak family in New Zealand.
