My sister, Rose and I knew Chuck from watching him play in our HS marching band and the jazz band. Years later when I moved back to PGH, my oldest children, Haley and Sydney attended school with the LoPresti boys and we became friends through our community. When I ended up going to work at The Western PA School for the Deaf, Chuck participated in my formal job shadow program and had one student spend the day on the job with him. Chuck chose just the right case for my student to witness. He even arranged for my student to go in the Judge's Chambers with him! After court, we all went to lunch and my student learned how easy it was to talk with Chuck. My student also saw first hand how Chuck had something truly kind and sincere to say to everyone we ran into, from the parking lot attendant to the cashier in the restaurant. He remembered specific details about everyone's family members. Chuck made time to listen to people and had such a calming affect. His years of life experiences made him relate to just about anyone. There wasn't a problem he couldn't solve. I told him many times over to write a book about his life in our community. Everyone would have read that book because it seems everyone knew Chuck. When I turned 50, Chuck and Kathy bartended at my birthday and helped me reach a goal of raising funds for Achilles International. Chuck had such a gift of being able to connect with everyone he came in contact with. He knew so many people that there was always a common thread in the conversations he struck up. When my father passed away, Chuck was the big brother I never had and helped me get through that very tough time. I learned so much from Chuck. I am truly blessed to call Chuck my friend. There will be such a void in the city of Pittsburgh and Jefferson Hills with his passing. May all of these wonderful memories from friends lift you all up, Kathy, Jimmy, Chuckie and Carmen.
