Steven “Steve” Charles Williams departed this World and entered into eternal rest on Friday, November 22nd, 2019 at the young age of 67 at Complex Care in Las Vegas, Nevada where he resided. Steve passed away with his wife Ondrea Williams, his daughter, Rebecca Rix and his step-son, Jordan Bell by his side after a 6-week long heroic battle against renal cell carcinoma.
Steve was born on November 15th, 1952 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to parents Charles and Erla Williams. He grew up with a passion for practical jokes (like the time he attempted to have his school photo taken again as a completely different student by changing up his hair style, borrowing another student’s eye glasses and speaking in a ridiculous lisp to throw the photographer off…) and drumming. He got his first drum set in high school, bought for him by his parents for his 16th birthday, and so began his love for music and playing the drums.
Steve was charming and charismatic but he was also incredibly stubborn and even a bit ornery at times (affectionately referred to once or twice as a “pain in the ass” by those who loved him most…).
He was witty and quick on his feet with endless puns and other corny jokes. His insatiable quest for the biggest “groaner” of all time led most people to believe that he was, in fact, the creator of the infamous “dad joke.”
Along with the puns, jokes, one-liners and witty come-backs, Steve was also famously known for his “turkey impression,” a startling loud “GOBBLE GOBBLE GOBBLE!” that rang through the air every Thanksgiving (and gave his kids the ultimate “my dad is better than your dad” bragging rights on the playground).
And even though speech eluded Steve in his final days, he somehow still managed to slip in a pun here and there, and instantly won over the love and affection of all the doctors and nurses who were so honored to call him their “favorite patient.”
Steve was predeceased by his father, Charles (Charlie). He is survived by his mother, Erla, his brother David, his wife Onnie, the mother of his four children Theresa Baethke, his four children Jocelyn, Rebecca, Jesse and Christopher, his daughter Sarah, his two step-sons, Justin and Jordan, his three daughters-in-law, Mary, Barbara and Liz, his son-in-law Stephen, his eight grandchildren, Alaria, Gabriel, Parker, Payson, Audra, Caden, Lorali and Beckham, his sisters-in-law Rhonda and Debbie, nieces, nephews, cousins and aunts.
A memorial service will be held in Steve’s honor on Saturday, December 14th, 2019, at 11 o’clock in the morning at the residence of Stephen and Rebecca Rix in Scottsdale, Arizona.
As an expression of sympathy, donations for memorial service expenses may be sent to the family.
