Speaking about and remembering Jack is one way we are able to keep his spirit ever with us, so we kindly ask that you share your favorite memories with Jack here. We are working to chronicle the many rich and joyous moments we all shared with this beautiful, sensitive, courageous man. We will cherish your words and your stories and share them with future generations of Hamrens, Thomsons, and Shores so that he is forever known by those who will not have the chance to meet our Jack.
We intend to hold a memorial for Jack in late April, 2021, on Muir Beach, circumstances allowing. Jack and his dog Karl visited Muir Beach frequently. It was a special place for Jack and one that brought great joy as he watched his sweet dog Karl race up and down the beach, leaping, hopping and loving! Jack visited with joy the headlands, Crissy Field, the Presidio and the many glorious open spaces of the Bay Area.
Jack was born in San Francisco, CA and attended Marin Country Day School. He graduated from Suffield Academy and Colorado College where he majored in economics and further developed his love of technology and entrepreneurship. He lived primarily in the San Francisco Bay Area working in technology sales and product development. He loved working with new technologies and had incredible energy, creativity and entrepreneurial spirit. He also spent time living and working in Jackson, WY and Seattle, WA.
Jack was a lifelong skier and he loved hiking, golf, and anything and everything in the outdoors.
Jack is survived by his mother Virginia Thomson of Mill Valley, CA, sister Josy Hamren Shore (Andrew) of New York, NY, sister Georgia Hamren of Jackson, WY, father Jon Hamren (Liz) of Medina, WA, sister Kate Hamren and brother Jonathan Hamren.
Jack was a true animal whisperer, adored by dogs, horses, cats… but particularly loved dogs. We have therefore set up a fund at Berkeley Humane in Jack's honor and invite you to make a contribution in his memory. https://berkeleyhumane.org/donations/in-memory-of-jack
The fund will be used to care for dogs that have been rejected by other homes and shelters, just as Jack would have done himself.
Thank you so much.

He and I met at brown where we were both spending the summer and taking calculus - and within days we were inseparable. There are almost too many great memories to share, and it is impossible to pick just one. Even after we had broken up due to long distance and heading off to different colleges, my mom had managed to surprise me by having him come to join us on our family vacation to Disney world... and he and I had an absolute blast, as if no time had ever been spent apart. He was a temporary big brother to my siblings, and as my mother would say, he “somehow made me tolerable to be around.” Most importantly, he taught me to see the beauty in how crazy and weird my family was, and gave me a confidence in myself that I never thought I would be able to discover. He was such a special soul, and is so deeply missed. less
I had the pleasure of being Jack's preschool teacher, and remember with sweetness the dear, sensitive, inquisitive, gentle and thoughtful child he was. His loss breaks my heart.
Sending all my love to his whole family--you are all precious in my memory.... moreI had the pleasure of being Jack's preschool teacher, and remember with sweetness the dear, sensitive, inquisitive, gentle and thoughtful child he was. His loss breaks my heart.

Karl was lucky to be loved by an animal whisperer, and I hope his sweetness will provide some comfort as his family and friends grieve this unbearable loss. less

Jack and his many great friends were my first class when I joined the SA family as a counselor. I met Jack as a student but we departed ways as friends🤗🙏His Heart was bigger than his body and his smile traveled across the campus . We had many laughs and deep conversations , his kind nature and love for life will remain in my heart. Here’s a poem I wrote years ago for one of my brothers who died : “ Life’s Friend”
When a heartbeat
That echoes friendship and love
Dissipates into yesterday’s wind
Today loses a friend!
It is only when
We listen
To our own heart
That we shall
Hear Jacks again❤️🙏
God Bless, Shanny less

I met Jack this summer and worked with him on several projects over the last 6 months at esellas. I am so incredibly sad and sorry to hear this news. In fact, I was supposed to be on a call with him yesterday and was worried when he didn't attend (he never missed a meeting). While I only met him virtually due to Covid and therefore didn't know him as well as I would have liked to know him, he was simply just awesome to work with. We shared a love of dogs and he spoke about his dog often. He was so very smart, fun, reliable and the world is smaller today without his beautiful spirit with us in person.
Three of my siblings have lived in San Francisco so I've had the opportunity to spend quite a bit of time at Muir Woods and Muir Beach. What a perfect place to hold his memorial. Next time I am in the Bay Area, I will make a special trip to Muir Beach to remember Jack.
On a personal note, my 16 year old son passed away on September 8th of this year and Jack was very kind and reached out to make sure that I was doing okay. As a mother, my heart breaks for you. I personally believe that he is at peace and with the angels and perhaps he has found my son, Garrett. If you need anything (and I really mean it), please do not hesitate to reach out. You are and will remain in my prayers.

I am sure many people who will post here knew Jack better than I did, and I hope you will post your memories of how funny he was, how caring of your feelings, how smart, intelligent, sensitive, intuitive, charming, and playful he was. I hope you will tell as many Jack stories as you can so we can all come and read them, and when his younger siblings, and future nephews and nieces ask about him, they can read this page, too.
Ginger, the first time I met Jack he came by where we were having dinner on Hayes Street. I was excited to finally meet him - he was doing well and I had heard so much about him from you! He couldn't stay because he had a date, but he swung by to see us (you, that is). I had no idea what he would look like - so I pictured a younger you.
So he walks in and I couldn't take my eyes off him. He was so beautiful, and so alive. His energy was indescribable - it was bright but not airy, he was charming but not smarmy. He connected with me in an easy and genuine way, even though we had never met. He was super connected with you, and even though he needed to be somewhere else, he stayed present and engaged with us until he walked out the door. I remember looking at you after he left the cafe. I think I said something really profound - like "wow!". You laughed.
I will never forget spending the Holiday together at Tip Top. For a time it was just you, Jack, Georgia, Josie, Andrew, and me. Jack said, "we are keeping you in our family now!", and I heard a chorus of yes!'s from around the room, but my eyes were glued on his open smiling face - so generous, genuine, alive and soulful. I can't stand it that he is gone. I'm glad I was touched by his amazing presence while he was here. He was a beautiful man, Ginger, a beautiful angelic soul. Much love to all of you, dear family. less
