Born September 22, 1938, Florence Thompson’s journey began in St. Catherine, Jamaica, where she was born to Samuel Thompson & Daisy Johnson. She grew up with big brother, Linval Stennett, and sister, Myrna Johnson, with whom she loved attending school, cooking, and sewing. As a young woman, she dreamed of migrating to America to begin a family and build a rich life. That opportunity came when she met Joseph Fields, a U.S.-based nursing student. They married on April 26, 1961, settled in Los Angeles, CA, and gave birth to three beautiful children: Michael, David, and Michaelle. While nurturing her growing family, Florence worked in fashion as a master dressmaker, volunteered at her kids’ school, and became den mother for Boy Scouts. Most will remember her for these precious qualities, as she loved cooking, sewing, and nurturing all of the neighborhood’s children. She also developed a lifelong love for bowling, joining leagues and participating in tournaments around the country. Later in life, she moved to Atlanta, GA, to reunite with family from Jamaica who by then also lived in the states. She ultimately returned to California to begin a fierce three-year fight against chronic kidney disease. Her fight ended October, 23, 2019. She is survived by her children, David & Michaelle, the apple of her eye and grandson, David, and a multitude of dear family and friends who she loved and loved her!
